Early Marvel Concept Art Gave Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight Suit A Sleek Upgrade

Marc Spector, aka Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac), is no stranger to changing looks, from his primary hooded ensemble in "Moon Knight" that wraps around the body of the titular character to the all-white Mr. Knight suit and tie worn by his alternate personality, Steven Grant. However, the Avatar of Khonshu could have had a much different appearance, as concept art from Jackson Sze shows.

Sze, who worked as the visual development supervisor on several Marvel Studios projects, including "Ms. Marvel" and "She-Hulk," unveiled his early take on Spector's costume for the "Moon Knight" series on Disney+. On Instagram, he shared his design giving Moon Knight a sleeker look. The mock-up has a grey and white color scheme with a smoothed-out mask and armor-like body suit. It features crescent shapes throughout, with embedded silver lines tying the cape and suit together. Sze admits the art was too sci-fi inspired than the story needed.

"Done at the same time as my last Khonshu/MoonKnight image, this is another take of #moonknight in the very early stages of preproduction," Sze wrote. "Trying to combine costume and tone in the same piece. In retrospect it is too sci-fi looking for the story we ended up telling. But in early development we have more leeway to explore directions. I had fun trying to integrate crescent shapes into the costume."

Fans in the comments loved the sci-fi inspired look

Jackson Sze's concept art captured the attention of Instagram users, who shared enthusiasm about the unused Moon Knight design.

One admirer, @docalix, commented, "I like this costume better than the recent series. There is a feel of so much friction so movements won't be as easy. There's so much wrappings." Meanwhile, Sze's design was compared to another popular franchise by @lordygrey: "Heck that suit design could be used in Assassin's Creed if it accents of red thought it and was set in to the future... Amazing design!" Lastly, @carlosalexandremartins.s said the suit was excellent, even if the one used for Moon Knight was more fitting: "Yes, it would not be ideal for the theme of the series, and it would be unfair to say that it is better than the costumes used, (they are wonderful!!!), but truth be told, what a fabulous costume!!!!!"

The team behind "Moon Knight" nailed the fan-favorite character's costume in live-action. The ensemble selected captures the dark, intimidating, mysterious essence of Moon Knight from the comics, as he is definitely someone villains wouldn't want to come across during the night. However, if Marvel ever wants to take the hero's stories in a more sci-fi, otherworldly direction, the concept art from Sze would make for a great alternate universe version of Moon Knight. It's a fantastic suit, even if it simply didn't fit the gritty tone the show was going for.
